- Immune-system booster
Colostrum, also called first milk, is the first substance produced by the female mammary glands after pregnancy and excreted through the nipples.
Description
Colostrum, like milk produced later, contains proteins, enzymes, vitamins, minerals, growth factors, amino acids and antibodies (IgM, IgA, IgG) produced by the mother, but sometimes in higher proportions. This strengthens the child or young animal and supports its immune system. The fat content in colostrum is lower than in milk.
Colostrum therefore supports the body on the following levels:
- As a strong anti-infective, colostrum first protects the new-born from the germs around it. Colostrum cells are actually two-thirds white blood cells. These leukocytes produce antibodies that are responsible for neutralizing the viruses and bacteria that the baby encounters.
- It is rich in "good bacteria" like Lactobacillus bifidus, and actively participates in the proper development of its intestinal microbiota. It also improves overall digestive function.
- Due to its high content of immunoglobulin A (IgA), colostrum is a true immune-system booster.
- It contains fatty acids, particularly long-chain fatty acids, vitamins and minerals (magnesium, which has a positive effect on the cardiovascular system and bones, and zinc and copper, which help to improve immunity), thus creating a real reserve of nutrients and energy.
